Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
